LISTENINGS

Hi there!
Do you feel that you need to improve your listening?
Then this post will help you a little.
To start with, these are some beginner listenings. The listenings on this page are less easy, and more your level. This page contains news videos with subtitles; the vocabulary is harder, but you'll probably get the main idea if you read while you listen.
You can also do the listening comprehension activities of the "nivel básico" on mansioningles.com
For more practice, this post has plenty of useful links for podcasts.
Good luck!

FILE 2

It is always good to do some EXTRA PRACTICE:
  • all the GRAMMAR points are here,
  • you can also practise "calling reception
  • and reading (choose the files we've seen, click on "next", take out some words and try to complete the text as fast as you can)
  • Subject and object questions seem to be still a bit hard for some of you. For extra practice go here, here, and here.
  • For the pronunciation of -ed: read this. Then listen to the podcast and repeat the verbs and sentences. You can download the transcript in word format here, on the right, below the little face.

  • Finally,  this is some cool practice on prepositions of location, and direction; then revise them here. This presentation will also help you; click here.

Happy Halloween!

How was Halloween?

Hey ho for Halloween
When the fairies all are seen;
Some black and some green,
Hey ho for Halloween!...
(Traditional Irish Rhyme)

What are its origins? Watch this to find out.

For further practice on UNIT 2:
  • grammar, holidays vocabulary and reading (text building, just choose the lessons we have seen).
  • This is a game for the prepositions. If you like games with a joystick, go here and practise questions. This other game is easier to play and choose the correct prepositions.
  • By the way, if you want to revise the pronunciation of verbs in the past, go here and do not forget to check this post by Laura. Really useful!
  • Finally,  this is for the "Practical English" section.

Now you can sing along if you wish:

EXTRA LISTENINGS

Do you have problems with your listening? Then this is for you!
Visit VOA News (Special English section) regularly and you will listen to some news read SLOWLY.
First listen to the story once or twice WITHOUT READING IT. When you feel that you understand the general idea, then LISTEN AND READ the news. It is important that you do it in this order. If you read it first, you are not testing your listening... you are just cheating!
This is the tale of the 3 little pigs... more or less! Good luck!

Tate Modern

This is the link you'll need for the search . Remember that for task 2, one is a future exhibition, the other is a current one. Good luck!

But meanwhile... have a laugh with Gomaespuminglish!

Just type your word and you'll get the definition in English.
